365 Challenge: Day 58 - If At First You Don't Succeed...

I decided to redo one of the pictures that I took a while ago since I wasn't entirely pleased with the results of the first one. With a little additional lighting and a lint roller I was much more pleased with the image the second time around.

Dear Facebook

Dear Facebook,

Breaking up is hard to do, but I feel that it's necessary and in this case, you had to have seen it coming.

Ah, Facebook. You're a great communication tool and way to keep in touch with people, but......

365 Challenge: Day 56 - Doing the Best with What You've Got

Don't worry I'm not completely losing my taste in photography. The picture above is to illustrate what I'm going to tell you in the rest of the post.

I'm not going to lie, winter is starting to get the better of me. It really is. Maybe it's just because I've got this lingering cold/bug that just won't let go. Maybe it's the fact that every snow bank in our yard is taller than I am. Either way, trying to get outside pictures is getting less and less appealing by the day.
So that being the case, I've been looking for things to take pictures of that don't require me to go out a freeze my fingers off.  Today my mom brought home some flowers that she was less than pleased with, but settled for because there was nothing else to choose from at that particular time and store. So she decided to work with what they had to make a practice bouquet.

In the mean time, I decided to take some pictures just for the fun of it. We don't live in a huge house and, in spite of the fact that we have a studio space, we all some how end up working in the dining room. (Probably because it's the warmest room in the house when the sun is coming in.)

The long and short of it was neither one of us was working in the "ideal working conditions." However, we made do with what we had available to us and we were both pretty pleased with the final result.

Winter Projects: Update Part 1

It feels like it's been forever since I've written anything on my blog. It's been kind of a crazy week. First I was sick, then we had no internet, so therefore no blogging ability and then I got sick again. Needless to say, it wasn't the more conducive week for blogging.  HOWEVER,  I have managed to get a few things checked off my to-do list.

365 Challenge: Day 49 - Gypsophila "Mirabella"

My mom is currently working on classes in floristry. As a result I've been working on learning a bunch of the proper names for the common flowers. Some of them are easy, take tulipa and rosa for example, and some, like Baby's Breath just have strange Latin names. It's named because of it's ability to thrive with the mineral Gypsum, just in case any of you were wondering.

365 Challenge: Day 48 - Venturing Into Abstract

I'm not one who really loves abstract art. In fact you could really say that it's NOT my thing at all. However, I decided to branch into a new genera with my photography and I really kind of liked the results.

365 Challenge: Day 46 - Just Add Cream

Nothing starts off the day like a good cup of coffee. No sugar, extra cream please. Today marks the first day of my February vacation at work! I can't begin to tell you how exciting school vacations and snow days are for me. It's not that I don't love my job, because I do (it's the greatest) but there is just something invigorating about the idea of having just a little extra free time during the week to get things done.

This week I've got a mile long list of projects that I want to get done, but also I'll hopefully have a little bit more time to actually sit down and get some real blog posts written.... Maybe....

365 Challenge: Day 45 - Some Signs of Spring.

We currently being buried under another snow storm. It's hard to think that there is anything beyond this snow.  We've got some geraniums that we're trying root in our dinning room. With all the white outside, it's good to see some green.

365 Challenge: Day 42 - A Peck of Pickled Peppers

Of course, these peppers are neither a peck or pickled, but they were a good subject for a freezing cold day.

365 Challenge: Days - 37, 38, 39, 40 & 41

I found the two pictures above stuck in the wrong folder. They were from a few weeks ago, but I lost them and they were never edited. So here they are now.

Surviving the Winter Blahs

It's almost mid February now, and I'm starting to get that sense of extreme blahs/cabin fever/stir craziness in full force. Apart from the things that need to get done around the house and work there really isn't much to do when it's been bitterly cold and snowy for weeks on end. The snow and the cold don't usually bother me too much, but I now have the distinct problem that the snow piles all around our yard are well over a foot and a half taller than I am, so the only way to see anything is if you look up a crane your neck. Added to the other maladies, mentioned above, you might also throw in claustrophobia and a stiff neck.

365 Challenge - Day 32

We're not getting a whole lot of sunshine these days, so we're enjoying it while we have it.

Bring on the Snowshoes + 365 Challenge - Day 32

It's starting to feel a lot like winter, maybe that's because it is. When you have three feet of snow and four foot snow banks, it's officially winter.
